From Flavio's "El Intuitivo" blog

I especially like the "Flavio" head: what have they made him of, and what does this mean, exactly? (Pity I cannot read the Spanish, to get the full gist, although I can kind of guess, perhaps!) And it might seem really strange putting these pictures of Flavio's "ofrenda" in the context of an "Empress" day, but there does seem a direct line of connection between the Empress and Death, in that the Great Mother who gives birth, also ipso facto gives the fact of death, a correspondence stunningly highlighted in the Voodoo tradition, in which Baron Samedi (Lord of Death, or Yum Cimi to the Mayans) appears also as the consort of Ezili Freda, the Goddess of Love... Think about it, but I cannot but hint at the mystical implications: eros and thanatos deeply intertwined (perhaps you need to think like a Scorpio here, i.e. 'sex, death and the occult', as opposed to the Piscean 'sex, drugs and rock and roll', to begin to get the gist! ;-))

These heads are made of sugar, we mexican people like to think at least in these days that we can laugh in the face of the death and remember in funny way that someday we'll all die but today is party. In recent years new materials have been used to make those heads, chocolate and jelly are also popular among children.

Nice one. Message of head equates to "Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we may die". Can't wait to start practising my Spanish with Flavio. Will translate if necessary, Claire.

PS. Flavio's English is good though, isn't it ?

Beautiful! Nice to see you two have caught up with each other? I wish I could speak Spanish; like Italian, I can only work bits out backwards from French! ;-))
